My fiance and I have a perfectly healthy relationship, and I would suggest that it may be preferable to many purely exclusive relationships. Though some may not be comfortable with the idea of their partner being intimate with another it is a fantasy the two of us share and very occasionally decide to actualise. Does he know your fiance? Are they close friends? That would be the only reason I would personally turn down such an invitation.

Depending on how close you guys are (the friend) you should be able to just come out and say it. If you have been friends for that long, it probably has crossed his mind countless times already. It might be out of his pants before you get the question out.
