Description
One of the multitude of Rhino armoured personnel carriers attached to the Dark Angels' Fifth Company, the Unbroken Blade is one of its longest serving engines. Produced from the ancient factories within the chapter's fortress-monastery, The Rock, it has served the company since M36. Originally labelled the Engine of Repent, the Rhino first saw action against remnants of the 5th Black Crusade where the Dark Angels spearheaded an assault against the Black Legion's rearguard. Arriving too late to rescue the Warhawks and Venerators from the trap set for them on Tarinth, the Dark Angels focused instead upon vengeance attacks against the traitor legion. The Dark Angels were nevertheless successful in preventing the escape of several warbands, and fragmenting their larger numbers into street by street skirmishes among the ruins of Kasyr Lutein.
In spite of this initial success, with the sheer volume of daemons summoned and having rushed ahead of Imperial support, casualties among the space marines steadily mounted, turning the strike into a bloody stalemate. It was only thanks to the arrival of naval and Imperial Guard support that the Fifth Company was able to escape at all, eventually purging the world of the Ruinous Powers. The Engine of Repent returned late from the conflict, operating under the commands of its machine spirit. Having taken multiple direct hits from artillery fire, its compliment of marines slain from the explosive blast. Thought to have been destroyed, its return allowed for the squad's gene-seed to be retrieved and given to new aspirants while the vehicle was repaired.
The Rhino continued to display acts of astounding fortitude in following engagements, eventually earning it the name of the Unbroken Blade.
