A British man has been found dead more than three months after he went missing while hiking in Switzerland.

The body of 29-year-old Aidan Roche was found near the Eiger Trail in the Bernese Alps, according to The Independent and The Guardian. It is unclear how he died.

Loved ones last heard from Aidan on June 22 while the Middlesbrough man was on a camping and hiking trip in the area, the BBC reported. Aidan’s van was found at a nearby campsite a few days after he was reported missing, according to The Independent and the BBC.

“The news has hit us all hard, even with this outcome on our minds over the last few months,” Aidan’s brother, Connor Roche, said in a statement on Facebook on Sunday.

Loved ones learned that Aidan’s body had been found last week, according to his brother’s statement.

Connor went on to thank those who assisted in the search for his brother — and ultimately gave his family some answers.

“On behalf of my entire family I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped us through all of this,” Connor said in the statement. “The outpouring of support from so many people has got us through all of the uncertainty and anguish, and shows just how loved Aidan was."

Multiple GoFundMe campaigns have been started for Aidan since he first disappeared. One fundraiser collected £31,900 to support the search for the missing hiker after the Swiss police ended their search for Aidan due to “exhausting” their available resources, according to The Independent.

Aidan worked as an offshore chemical engineer before his death, per the reports.

Aidan’s friend, Beth Taylor, 26, previously told The Guardian that her pal had the “biggest heart” and would “do anything for anyone.”

Connor also told the outlet at the time that he hoped his brother would be found alive with “some crazy survival story” to share.
